Possible events for 2014

February 1-2: Training Weekend for re-enactors
See separate post for info on this here.

February 22-23: Chesterfield’s Forties & Vintage Weekend, The Winding Wheel, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Annual 1940s and vintage event with market, entertainments and dancing.

June 14-15: Great Central Railway clashing with Derby Fire Show. We haven’t yet decided which of these to go to.

June 28-29: Great War Centenary 1914-18, Rufford Abbey Country Park, Nottinghamshire.

A living history event as part of the From the Trent to the Trenches commemorative programme on the exact 100th anniversary of the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, the immediate cause of this terrible conflict. The event features recreated British soldiers including mounted cavalrymen as immortalised by Warhorse, allies and foes, military drills, tactical displays, equipment and field encampments, medical displays, music and song, talks, exhibits and more.

12-13 July: Kelham Island 1940s – a minor air raid on an industrial setting.

18-20 July: Woodhall Spa 1940s Festival – the major air raid on a hotel in the centre of the village.

24-27 July: Welland Steam Rally – the big 1950s AFS display.

2-3 August: Peak Rail 1940s – possibly just taking the Mobile Canteen, or doing a display at Darley Dale.

9-10 August: Crich Tramway Museum 1940s. Not sure if we will go to this, as it is a rather confined space to do a large air raid.

September 27-28: On the Home Front 1939-45, Rufford Abbey Country Park, Nottinghamshire.

Our hugely popular 1940s Home Front event. Military & civilian living history, “air raid” with National Fire Service and ARP response, tactical demonstrations, music, song, dancing, other entertainments and more.

19-20 October?: Papplewick 1940s

About lowdhamstation

I am a director of a small (and very technical) business, a committed Christian, a Reader (and preacher) in my local village church, husband to my dear Frances, am interested in heritage railways, and heritage fire engines. I currently run a group that displays wartime and early post-war fire engines at 1940s re-enacting events and steam engine rallies. O yes, and vintage cars and motorbikes, and we live in a Victorian railway station.
