We start the season with a static display at the Eventplan Historical Bazaar at Thoresby Hall on 19th/20th May.
Then there is the Lanc, Tank and Military Machines at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre on Sat/Mon 26th/28th May. There will be rides in a fire engine, and a foam demonstration. NB NOT Sunday!
The Great Central Railway have their 1940s weekend on 1st-3rd June, and like last year, we are invited to do a major air raid.
We are looking at a possible visit to Wicksteed at War on 8th – 10th June, run by the Military Vehicles Trust. Initial discussions are very promising, with scope for an arena parade of a Mobile Column on the move, with a little bit of hose laying, and a pumping display drawing water from the lake, over a pipe bridge, through a couple of relay Goddesses, and spray back into the lake..
Sat 16th June is the annual memorial service for the Civil Defence Association at the National Memorial Arboretum near Burton-on-Trent. They would like a Goddess to be present to remember the end of the AFS and CD movements.
We have just received the invitation to go to the new 40s event at Kelham Hall on the 16th / 17th June. The site borders the River Trent, and there is loads of space, and tall buildings, so lots of potential.
We are back again at the Severn Valley Railway Wartime Weekends, 30th June / 1st July and 7st/8nd July. Again, a major air raid at Kidderminster Station. Initial thoughts are that an old steel-framed wooded-decked wagon could be set on fire for us to put out! (As well as some sheds, of course).
13th-15th July we are at the Black Country Living Museum with a training demonstration, and a bit of pumping, as they have a canal with an unlimited supply of water!
The Fire Services Preservation Group are now 50 years old, and are celebrating with a big show at the British Motor Museum at Gaydon on 21st / 22nd July. We are planning to be present with a selection of wartime vehicles and green AFS vehicles to commemorate the stand-down of the Auxiliary Fire Service and Civil Defence movements in 1968. We are hoping to do an appropriate display, but planning is still at an early stage.
We are planning a foam demo at Newark Air Museum, over the weekend of 11th/12th August.
Newstead Abbey have their wartime event on 22nd / 23rd September, and given a lake, I am sure we will do some pumping and training.
And after a successful first year under new management, Rufford Abbey is back the next weekend, 29th / 30th September. Plans are afoot for a major air raid.
The last main 1940s event of the season is at Papplewick Pumping Station on 20th / 21st October, where we will do our usual training and demo using the lake.
