We start the season with a new event for us – Lanc, Tank and Military Machines at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre on Sat/Mon 27th/29th May. There will be rides in a fire engine, and a foam demonstration. NB NOT Sunday!
The Great Central Railway have their 1940s weekend on 2nd-4th June, and like last year, we are invited to do a major air raid.
Another new event for us is the long-standing Severn Valley Railway Wartime Weekends, 24th/25th June and 1st/2nd July. Again, a major air raid at Kidderminster Station.
14th-16th July we are at the Black Country Living Museum with a training demonstration, and a bit of pumping, as they have a canal with an unlimited supply of water!
Following on the success of the Ransome and Marles Air Raid commemoration last year at Newark Air Museum, we are running another air raid over the weekend of 12th/13th August. It may be a re-enactment of the R&M air raid of March 1941, or a raid on an airfield with a crash tender responding with foam.
We hope to take something to Stonehurst Farm, Mountsorrel for 19th/20th August, and perhaps do a demo and some training.
This year sees a brand-new event at Newstead Abbey on 23rd/24th September, and given a lake, I am sure we will do some pumping and training.
And under new management, Rufford Abbey is back the next weekend, 30th September / 1st October. Plans are afoot for a major air raid. On the morning of 1st October, we will be at a commemorative service at Gunthorpe Church remembering the bomber crew that died when their Lanc crashed nearby 75 years ago, 1/10/1942.
The last main 1940s event of the season is at Papplewick Pumping Station on 21st/22nd October, where we will do our usual training and demo using the lake.
