Papplewick 1940s event

Although this was in October, we had almost summer weather. On Saturday, we had the K2 and Dennis, and the Turntable Ladder. Saturday was a rather quiet day, and gave us the chance to try things out. We did a number of demonstrations, including showing the jet from different nozzle sizes, from 1/4″, 1/2″, 3/4 to 1″. We also raised the TL ladder, and sprayed water from the top, using a inch and  1/8″ nozzle, which was seriously impressive.

On Sunday, we were joined by the ARP wardens and police. We also brought in theFordson Escape Carrier, and slipped the escape. With more of us present, we were able to do a more adventurous display involving two hand-held branches, and a huge jet from the top of the TL.

Altogether a very enjoyable and successful weekend.

About lowdhamstation

I am a director of a small (and very technical) business, a committed Christian, a Reader (and preacher) in my local village church, husband to my dear Frances, am interested in heritage railways, and heritage fire engines. I currently run a group that displays wartime and early post-war fire engines at 1940s re-enacting events and steam engine rallies. O yes, and vintage cars and motorbikes, and we live in a Victorian railway station.
